Beating the winter blues (or life’s stresses in general)
Whether winter makes you feel unmotivated, down or like a recluse, or life is getting you down, these are some of my top tips for beating the winter blues!
I hope you find my tips helpful, and let me know if you have any of your own to add!

Create a Routine
Having a daily schedule or morning routine can help you stay motivated. It could be as simple as waking up half an hour earlier to have a cup of tea, take some deep breaths and review your tasks for the day. For me, morning routines are great because they set the tone for the day.
Walk
Getting out for even a short walk around the block releases tension and can help your mind regroup and refocus.
Wind Down at Night
Winding down at night will put you in good stead for a deep restful sleep. I have a few steps in my evening routine which may seem long, but is actually a lot easier and quicker than you think, and well worth it!
Sleepytime Tea is my best friend at night! Infused with Chamomile, spearmint, lemongrass, tilia flowers, blackberry leaves, orange blossoms, hawthorn and rosebuds, this tea is comforting and soothing in the evening.
An evening stretch helps me feel relaxed and take away the restless feeling from my body.
A hot shower is a must at the end of the end of the night.
Spray Deep Sleep Pillow Spray on your pillow or bed cover. The smell of lavender, vetivert and wild chamomile will have you dreaming in no time!
Finally, I always need a kiss goodnight from my husband. 🙂
Sip Tea
Simply putting on the kettle and pouring a warm cup of tea can be calming, so taking five minutes to brewing a cup of chammomile or peppermint tea is a great go-to in times of stress.
On The Nose
Smelling nostalgic and beautiful aromas can really lift my spirits. I’ll either light a scented candle, use aroma therapy oils or spray some perfume. Below are some of my favourite scents!
I love Lavender when I’m feeling stressed or anxious.
Lime is my go-to for an energy boost.
Eucalyptus is perfect when wanting to feel refreshed and comforted.
For nostalgia I sniff Chanel No.5 (reminds me of my Mum!).
Service and Charity
I’m a firm believer that through serving others, you feel more uplifted.
I’ve personally experienced how helping others can lift your spirits, and this has been regularly reaffirmed by many academic sources.
Be Grateful
I always try and look for the positives and take note of something I can be grateful for.
You can find blessings in the simplest things with a grateful heart; fresh air to breath, the morning sun, milk in your fridge, roof over your head or a loving family.
Looking around and reflecting on the little wins in life, helps me to realise how lucky we are.
Let It All Out
Write in your diary, call a friend, a family member or a hotline. Sometimes we need to get things off our chest and have a good vent.
